TIPS TO SECURE YOUR BUSINESS DATA

TIPS TO SECURE YOUR BUSINESS DATA

Recently, there has been an increase in the series of data attacks and security issues for companies. As technology is progressing, so are hacking masterminds. Whether small or large, no business is safe from these breaches and to fully understand the risks, managers need to understand that they are fair game for hackers, and need to beef up their security measures.

In order to prevent such issues from occurring, there are certain precautions that must be implemented. Moreover, it’s also important to be aware of the data recovery services available in your city – so that in case you are the target of a cybercrime that you don’t have the resources to recover from, you can contact professionals to help you.

Promote Awareness Among Employees

Creating awareness among employees is imperative in minimizing security threats to your company’s data. Employees can get easily scammed by clicking on malicious links or may end up exposing sensitive data when using devices in public.

The smart move for a company is to arrange seminars and training sessions on the risks and prevention methods of data security breaches. The file recovery method should also be taught so that even if such an issue occurs, less resources are spent in regaining the data.

Encryption

Encrypting your data is one of the key steps in minimizing the risks of data hacking. The process of encryption allows data to be encrypted and unauthorized entities are incapable of deciphering it without a code. There are many programs available that can be used to encrypt data and to be safe, ensure that the data is encrypted on all storage devices.

Back-Up Your Data

Besides being the target of a cyberattack, it’s possible to lose data because of other mishaps. It’s a sensible move to back up your data regularly. You can use cloud software as it’s easily accessible and convenient to manage.

You can also create duplicate data on other devices available. Another precaution can be to add a security layer so that only employees with specific IP addresses and passwords can access the backup data.

Create a Data Fortress

There are ways through which you can create an impenetrable wall around your sensitive data. Hackers may try to approach your business through links and emails which look harmless enough, and webcams and microphones are also used in cyber attacks.

Some ways to create a digital fortress are:

  • Integrate firewalls
  • Maintain updated anti-malware and antivirus programs
  • Disconnect or block webcams and microphones
  • Use a U2F key or other two-factor authentication

Enforce and Reinforce Mobile Data Safety

If you think only laptops or desktops are in danger of having data stolen, think again. Mobile phones often contain emails ids and documents so if a mobile was to get stolen, that could easily create problems as well. You can ensure that doesn’t happen by:

  • Using backup on mobile data
  • Setting passcodes on mobile phones
  • Making sure the remote location feature is active
  • Installing mobile antivirus technology
