Say Goodbye to Social Media Spam

With the start of 2020, advertising of unwanted emails, robocalls, robotics, social spam, and spam reviews are making waves as they are growing and spreading. It is occurring at cultural levels.

Email is a highly used communication channel and is the largest platform for spam. Email Spam was at a peak in 2012, but a decrease was observed in the last few years.

Spam calls are another way of spreading malware. An increase was seen in spam phone calls as the more 5 million spam calls and robocalls were recorded in FTC.

Email and telephone spam is clearly a major problem. But more and more, so there are text messages, online reviews, social media, and other spam types.

Social media sites like Facebook, WhatsApp are also used to separate spam. The hackers are targeting the victim by sending messages, making spammy comments, sending links, tagging them, online reviews, and much more.

There are various ways to avoid being spammed on social media by following some simple strategies. Given are some ways to avoid social media spam and reduce its effects.

Beware of links

Social media sites like Facebook have a common type of spam that is bad links in the comments. People who don’t have enough knowledge of spam may get fool and click the link or you will never believe what happens in this video etc.

Avoid clicking on such links and keep an eye on the person commenting whether he is posting normally or not. You can also restrict users from posting links in the comment. Beware of the App that your authorized person uses to post on your behalf.

Report and block

Keep monitoring the person who is posting links in the comments. If you are consistently targeted by specific users, you should report and block that person.

Social media account like Facebook and Instagram have an easy facility of reporting and blocking specific person or content.

Audit your followers

To control spam it is sometimes better to say goodbye to followers. Monitor your follower’s activities, stalk their profiles and if anything shows you red flag then just remove them from your list. If you are following someone who has not a clear profile, do unfollow them. It is vital to avoid bulk following accounts or automated following apps.
