How do I protect myself from ransomware?

They are various ways to deal with a ransomware attack, which are costly as well as more technical. Here are a few steps that you can follow to avoid the fallout from a ransomware attack.

The first step one should take to avoid ransomware is to invest in the right cybersecurity product. The product should provide real-time protection and designed to detect advanced malware attack such as ransomware. The product must have features which shield vulnerable programs from anti-exploit technology and block ransomware from holding files.

The users need to keep a secure backup of their data regularly. The best way to avoid ransomware is through using cloud storage, which includes a high-level of encryption and two-factor authentication process for login. Another way to keep a back up is through using external hardware or USB and make sure to disconnect the device after backing up your files.

It is essential to have an updated system and software to avoid ransomware. The reason behind various ransomware attacks is out-dated software because hackers use more advanced technology. It is vital to change your setting to enable automatic updating.

Another way of staying safe is through staying informed. The cybercriminals use social engineering to infect the system or computer. Provide information related to malware and ransomware to the workers on how to detect malspam, suspicious websites, and other scams.

Important data should not be stored on personal computers. Keep a strong password for logging in. It is vital to turn off macros in the Microsoft suite that can be MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. in the browsers.

To get protected, remove the plugins from your browsers which can be an adobe flash, adobe reader, Java, and Silverlight. Set the browser to ask first before connecting these plugins to the system.

To increase your protection, it is vital to improving your browsers security and privacy setting by using multiple factor authentications. Malware and ransomware mostly enter a system through spam emails, message, links, and ads. Use ad and spam message blockers to avoid the threats of malicious emails and ads.

Train your employees not to open spam emails and messages from unknown sources and how to identify spam emails. Tell them never click on spam links and never download any attachment from unauthorized or spam emails.
