Cybersecurity tips for business travelers

Business travelers are more vulnerable to cyber-attack as they carry lots of sensitive, private, personal and business data with them and travel abroad regularly. They usually carry smart devices and laptop for business use. Keeping all the devices and data safe is also the first priority of every businessman. Here are a few tips they will help business travelers to keep their data and devices safe from cyber-attacks.

Lock Devices Down

First of all the smartphones, laptops and tablets should be locked. There are various methods of locking these devices which comes with the devices security setting. They can be locked with pin codes, passwords, fingerprints, face recognition and much more. All the devices should be locked and try to keep the passwords different before traveling.

Be Cautious of Public Wi-Fi

Travelers may find free Wi-Fi attractive and fun but actually, it keeps you vulnerable to cyber attacks. While traveling business travelers should avoid using free Wi-Fi. Before connecting to any network make sure it is secure and try not to check or access any personal data while you are connected to free Wi-Fi.

Disable Auto-Connect

While traveling it is important to switch off the auto connect as the devices may get connected to any network as you pass through. Try to connect your phones and laptop manual to a trusted and secured network.

Minimize Location Sharing

Social networks usually update your location as you move from one country or city to other. As it updates your location, the cyber thieves become active as they know you have left personal data and belonging and not in that place. Try to limit the use of social media while traveling and posts online about your specification.

Install Anti-Virus Protection

The business traveler needs to carry lots of personal devices and data with them while traveling so an easy step to get protected is by installing anti-virus. Try to use a trusted brand of cybersecurity products and keep the software updated. Use a security suite for all devices like smartphones, laptop, and others.

Update Operating Systems

Keep the operating system of laptops and Apps at phone updated just like the anti-viruses. Try to update your smart device Apps and laptop operating systems before traveling and do not update the devices while connected to other or untrusted network.
