Four biggest healthcare security threats for 2020

Healthcare is using different systems which are not patched regularly, which keeps it vulnerable to the attackers. Healthcare organization doesn’t use more security products that are what puts them in the radar of the attackers. Healthcare suffers from data dystopia, and organizations don’t have enough and secure way of transmitting it.

Given below are the five security threats that healthcare firms may suffer in the years ahead.

Ransomware

Most healthcare firm believes that they are well prepared to deal with a ransomware attack. Healthcare firms have upgraded their systems and end-users to avoid ransomware attacks. Most of the ransomware attacks occur due to end-users as they click on links and download something which is associated with malware.

Ransomware is more likely to hit healthcare as it contains patient’s data, and the healthcare providers can’t put patient’s lives at risk by losing access to their data. They feel compelled and takes immediate actions and pay ransom despite go through a long recovery process. Any business that intersects with parts of people lives does not afford any damage. They refer to pay instead of fighting.

Theft of patient data

Cybercriminals are taking more interest in healthcare data than financial data. After stealing the insurance ID cards, the attackers sell them in the dark web for more than $ 5. They can also drive essential documents like driving license, which is further sold out.

Healthcare data carries lots of information than a credit card that is why it is worth exceeding. Everything which an identity theft needs is available there.

Insider threats

The reason behind most of eh data breaches are the insiders. Attackers target the insiders by fun and curiosity. Within healthcare, the average employees have access to lots of data because they need to get data quickly to provide more care to the patients. Another reason is having numbers of different system in the healthcare organization which includes billing and registration, OB/GYN, oncology, diagnostics, and other clinical systems

Phishing

Another threat that may affect healthcare in 2019 is phishing. It is a trendy means to gain access to a system. It is used to install ransomware, crypto-mining scripts, spyware, or code to steal data.

Healthcare firms which have more than 700 to 1000 employees don’t have received security awareness training that is why they fall as a victim of a phishing attack.
