Data protection keeps your sensitive information safe wherever it is stored, shared, or used: customer records, personally identifiable information (PII), protected health information (PHI), controlled unclassified information (CUI), financial data, and intellectual property.
Most organizations cannot say exactly where their sensitive data lives. It spreads across laptops, email, file shares, SaaS apps, and cloud storage, and one misdirected email, careless upload, or departing employee can expose it.
Why it matters
Protect the data your business depends on
Prevent data loss
Stop sensitive data from leaving by email, upload, or USB Data loss prevention detects PII, PHI, and confidential files and blocks them before they leave your endpoints, cloud services, and applications.
Lower breach impact
A lost laptop does not become a reportable breach Encrypted data is unreadable to thieves, which can spare you breach notification obligations under HIPAA and many state laws.
Insider protection
Know when critical files are accessed or changed Monitoring and real-time alerts flag unauthorized access and changes, whether from a careless employee, a departing one, or an attacker.
Customer trust
Pass audits and keep customers confident Data controls built to HIPAA, CMMC, SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, and FedRAMP requirements answer auditors and buyers quickly.
What we do
Protection for data at rest, in motion, and in use
You cannot protect data you cannot find. We start with discovery, then put the right controls on each type of data.
Discover
Discovery and classification
Find sensitive data across endpoints, file shares, email, and cloud, and label it by sensitivity.
Protect
Encryption and access
Encryption for data at rest and in transit, with granular access control based on role and need.
Prevent
Data loss prevention
Policies that detect and block PII, PHI, CUI, and confidential files from leaving your control.
Monitor
Activity and file integrity
Real-time alerts on unauthorized access to, and changes in, your critical files and data.
Where data leaks
How sensitive data gets out, and how we stop it
Most data loss is not a sophisticated attack. It is everyday activity that no control is watching.

Why InfoGuard
Data protection expertise for regulated industries
Healthcare experience
Patient data protected for more than 15 years We have supported a multi-location healthcare organization for more than 15 years, protecting PHI under HIPAA.
Compliance depth
One set of data controls for every regulation Controls map to HIPAA, CMMC, SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, and FedRAMP, saving time, money, and resources on audits.
Zero Trust expertise
Access to data granted by identity and need Granular access control limits each user to the data their role requires, so one compromised account exposes far less.
No lost productivity
Your teams keep working while risky actions are stopped We classify your data by sensitivity and tune data loss prevention to match, so everyday work flows freely and only actions that put sensitive data at risk are stopped.
Our approach
From finding your data to keeping it protected
01
Data Discovery
We locate sensitive data across endpoints, servers, email, file shares, and cloud services, and map how it flows.
02
Classification
We define sensitivity levels and label data so every control knows what to protect and how strongly.
03
Access Control
We apply granular, least-privilege access so people reach only the data their roles require.
04
Encryption
We encrypt sensitive data at rest and in transit, on laptops, servers, databases, and cloud storage.
05
Data Loss Prevention
We deploy policies across email, endpoints, and cloud apps, starting in monitor mode to avoid disrupting work.
06
Monitoring & Tuning
We monitor access and changes to critical files, respond to alerts, and refine policies as your business changes.
FAQ
Data protection questions, answered
Data protection
What is data loss prevention (DLP)?
Data loss prevention is a set of policies and tools that recognize sensitive data, such as PII, PHI, or confidential files, and stop it from being sent, uploaded, or copied where it should not go.
What types of data do you protect?
Customer records, PII, PHI, CUI, payment card data, financial records, and intellectual property, wherever they are stored, shared, or used.
Does encryption help with HIPAA breach notification?
Yes. Under HIPAA, properly encrypted PHI is not considered unsecured, so its loss generally does not trigger breach notification. Many state laws offer similar protection.
Will data loss prevention block legitimate work?
Not if it is done well. We start in monitor mode, learn how your teams use data, and tune policies before blocking, so only risky actions are stopped.
Scope, timing, and cost
Can you use the tools we already have, such as Microsoft 365?
Yes. Many organizations already own strong data protection features in platforms like Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. We configure what you have and recommend added tools only where needed.
Do you also protect data in the cloud?
Yes. We extend discovery, classification, and data loss prevention to SaaS apps and cloud storage, including cloud-to-cloud sharing. See our Cloud Security page for more.
How long does a data protection engagement take?
Data discovery and an initial assessment typically take a few weeks. Controls are then rolled out in phases sized to your environment.
How much does it cost?
Cost depends on the number of users, systems, and data types in scope. There is no flat fee. We provide a firm quote after a short scoping conversation.
Data protection in practice
Most data loss starts with a simple mistake
A misdirected email or an unencrypted laptop can expose thousands of customer records in seconds.
